Some will recognize October 30, 2019 as an homage to the Washington Nationals beating the Houston Astros in Game 7 of the World Series just over three years ago. While not on the same scale, the Washington Commanders have a key game against the Houston Texans today.
The story should be all about the 4-4 Washington Commanders playing the hot 6-1 Minnesota Vikings today. But per usual, Commanders’ owner Dan Snyder has once again overshadowed the team on the field with news off the field. Snyder made it official earlier this week that he will explore a sale of the team.
The Washington Commanders got that win they needed 10 days ago against Chicago and now they are back to play and have added starting quarterback Carson Wentz to the long list of injured players with a broken finger. Elevated to QB1 is Taylor Heinicke with Sam Howell as his backup. This is a huge opportunity for Heinicke to try to show he is a starter in this league.
The Washington Commanders dug themselves a deep hole in the NFC East with a 1-4 record entering this game. It is not what you wanted to see with the undefeated 5-0 Eagles and 4-1 Cowboys running away with the top two spots in the division.
The Washington Commanders are at a point in the season of “must win” territory. The excuses must be replaced by action that turns into wins. The team is back at FedEx Field with a 1-3 record as they take on the Tennessee Titans and their 2-2 record.
Washington has their back against the wall today in Dallas. With a loss, the Commanders drop to a deep hole of 1-3, but with a win they are back in the hunt at 2-2. The Cowboys have surprised after Dak Prescott injured his hand and has been replaced by Cooper Rush who is 3-0 in his career as a starter for Dallas. Unfortunately with Washington’s QB1, it has been an up and down season with each game and in each half of football. Yes, Carson Wentz has a 1-2 record, and that matters more than his passing yardage.
Washington is back home for their third game of the season with a 1-1 record. This week’s opponent is the rival Philadelphia Eagles, and their fans will be packing it in to FedEx Field today with dreams of staying undefeated.
The Washington Commanders are in Detroit today for this second game of the 2022 season. Expect a lot of discussion about the Commander’s starting quarterback, Carson Wentz, and comparisons with the Lions’ quarterback Jared Goff. Technically they don’t face each other on plays on the field, they will alternate with their respective offenses when they are on the field. These two QBs were picks № 1 and № 2 in the 2016 NFL Draft and that makes this a rare matchup.
